Ona & Schmitz win historic Swiss Open

Carolina Ona (Bolivia) and Arne Schmitz (Germany) are the ladies and mens singles champions of the Swiss Open 2023 that were held last weekend in Aesch, near Zurich. Ona defeated Renate Hartmann (Germany) 15-1, 15-3, 15-6 while Schmitz defeated Mike Mesecke (GER) 15-13, 15-7, 15-12. Together, Schmitz and Mesecke claimed the doubles title after a hard fought match against Mikan van Zanten & Edwin Schipper from the Netherlands 15-10, 9-15, 15-11, 15-12. The Swiss Open 2023 were the first one since 1990. Promoted as an ERF Promo Event, the revival of the Swiss Open was a huge success with players from six countries participating and with new faces competing in an ERF Event. New contacts were made to Swiss players and a Swiss Open 2024 (!) is already planned.
