Conor Skehan wins first Open title

Congratulations to Conor Skehan (Fermoy RC) who won his first Men’s Open’s Singles title this weekend at the Fermoy Open (Sat 14th & Sun 15th May). The Touraneena native defeated Fermoy’s Patrick Hanley in the final on the scoreline 15-12, 14-15, 15-8, 15-8. This was the first tournament held in Ireland and in Europe using the new scoring system ‘rally scoring’ where a point is awarded to the winner of each rally.
In the semi-finals, Skehan defeated no 2 seed Johnny O’Keeney while Hanley defeated current All Ireland Champion Noel O’Callaghan.
In the Women’s Singles, Aisling Hickey(Rossmore) continued her good form. The 10th time in a row All Ireland Champion defeated Majella Haverty(Castlebar) in the final 15-11, 15-13, 15-11.
